The national award winning Tamil director SP Jananathanm took his last breath on Sunday. The director Jananathanm was found unconscious at his home on Thursday, following which he was admitted to a Chennai hospital, where he died yesterday morning due to cardiac arrest. SP Jananathanm was 61.
Mourning the death of the filmmaker SP Jananathanm, Krack lady Shruti Haasan, who was working with him on her upcoming film, Laabam, paid condolence to the late director. The exact reason behind the director’ death is yet unknown.
He is known for movies such as Peranmai and Iyarkai. Jananathanm also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. Recently he was working for the upcoming much hyped movie Laabam, which stars Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Sai Dhanshika and Kalaiyarasan.
Despite winning the National Award for his directorial debut Iyarkai, which was inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s White Nights, in 2003, Jananthan took things slow. Arun Vijay, who essayed a crucial role in Iyarkai, says, “That’s because Jananathan was someone who committed himself only to things that he believed in. He could have made several films after Iyarkai, which has now turned out to be a cult film, but he was not after such success.”
