Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra are going into closure mode. The Maharashtra government has announced that cinema halls, gyms and swimming pools in cities including Pune, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Nagpur will be closed from the Friday midnight.
Health Ministry official said that the hotels and the malls would remain open across Maharashtra, even as Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the govt has invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 to tackle coronavirus outbreak in Maharashtra State.
The source said that the theaters, gyms, public parks, swimming pools would remain closed until further notice. The Schools and colleges will also remain shut, except those where the examinations are ongoing.
The closure order of cinema halls and swimming Pools came into effect from Friday midnight. The Chief Minister said that event organizers had been asked not to organize political, social and religious gatherings. They have also canceled the permissions granted earlier.
After New Delhi and Kerala, Maharashtra is the next state to order for the immediate shut down of Cinema Halls. The single screens in various cities such as Pune, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai will also remain shut down from today until further notice. The shut down of cinema halls will cause huge damage to the film exhibition business.
